Cross Country Ski at the Summit Ski Resort, Snoqualmie Pass (2-20-2012) ---14 miles of cross country skiing
It was an excellent day in XC skiing at the Summit for the first time this year. I was yearning for a XC ski day-trip and was very glad to see the event in the PWC calendar. Paul Dutky sponsored the trip for the beginners and joined by Bruce, Janet, Soon, and I. While Paul was giving lessons to the beginners, Bruce and I skiied on our own. I was so happy to be out at the Summit and classic skiing. I wanted to XC ski the Mt Catherine loop but the top area was closed due to avalance warning. I made a loop of Cub Creek (Green- easy) and Hidden Valley (Black-most difficult) trail, and skiied down the steep hill along with the downhill skiers !!! The snow condition was just right for snow plowing at my ski level.
In the afternoon, Paul and I took the ski lift to the upper Nordic trail system, and skiied for a couple of hours. It was my first time riding a ski lift in my life !!! It was lots of fun in XC skiing up and downs. I took a couple of falls but were all minor. We were planning to take ski lift down to the Silver Fir but decided to ski down along with the downhill skiers. I felt like I could snow plow down but the snow was too thick and was getting tired. So, I glissaded down a bit. My thighs were burning as the think snow was hard to snow plow (it was snowing most of day). Then, I followed Paul's tracks (already plowed) to come down the hill without falling. I probably fell about 1/2 dozen times earler but Paul did not fall one single time. What an amazing skier and good control of the skis !!!
The views at the upper area were obsecured by clouds, but were incredible and relaxing to see the snow flocked evergreens in all winter wonderland condition. It looke like the place just received a foot or more in last 48 hours. It was so much fun and had a plenty of work-outs. I wish I can go back XCskiing a few more times this year....
