Mountain Biking Iron Horse Trail,43 miles roundtrip with 1500 ft eelv gain (Sunday, 14 July 2013)

A PWC member, Charlie Pomfret and I arranged to mountain bike the Iron Horse trail which is a portion of the John Wayne Pioneer Trail near the Snoqualmie Pass Area.   Another PWC member,  Cathy Paszell, joined us.A 4th biker was invited on the Kitsap Hikers Facebook (FB) but nobody signed up.  The last time I biked was when three of us biked the Clear Creek Trail together back in March 2013.

It was indeed a very nice trail graded not more than 3 % for the rail trail.   It was quite neat to bike 2.3 miles of the Snoqualmie Tunnel that was completed in 1912-1914 !!!   We started from the Iron Horse State Park and ended up at Hyak Sno-Park parking that I recognized when I cross country skied the John Wayne Pioneer Trail which the Iron Horse Trail is part of it.  I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and surprised there was such a nice bike trail in the area.  I am pretty sure that I want to go back there and bike again on a nice day.

For the local bikers living around the Puget Sound, highly recommend to ride the trail.   We started from the Iron Horse State Park (near the Exit 32 of the I-90) and turned around at Hyak Sno-Park (21 miles away from TH) just passed the Snoqualmie Tunnel.    To get to the Snoqualmie Tunnel straight,  take I-90 Eastbound Exit #54.  Turn right at the exit, then turn left at the stop sign. Follow the signs leading to Iron Horse State Park / Snoqualmie Tunnel and Keechelus Trail Head, then turn right before the Highway Maintenance area, then turn another right into the trailhead parking lot.
